Findings suggest that direct modeling by applied instructors may support more transfer. This has implications for reconsidering curricular design in undergraduate programs.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The Effect of Expressive Movement on Vocal Ensemble Performance Evaluation – A Pilot Study I investigated the relationship between expressive body movement and listeners’ evaluations of vocal ensemble performance videos. Vocal quartet performances featuring no movement received lower ratings compared to two movement conditions and compared to audio-only performances. Findings suggest that absence of expressive movement negatively affected listeners’ perceptions and that movement may be a fundamental aspect of cognitive processing of music.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Small Group Music Improvisation Achievement and Dispositional Empathy Development in Adolescent Instrumental Music Students This study examined the effect of music improvisation interventions on dispositional empathy development. I also explored the relationship between empathy levels and performance achievement in adolescents engaging in small ensemble experiences using improvisation and notation. Results show no significant changes in empathy as a result of musical interventions and a positive relationship between group empathy levels and performance outcomes.</image:caption>

The purpose of this observational pilot study was to explore a university choral conductor’s use of gender-binary and gender-inclusive language over three rehearsals.       <image:caption>Stephanie Gregoire | Northwestern University "You belong somewhere you feel free": An exploration of social identity in a university women’s ensemble The purpose of this pilot study was to investigate what experiences contribute to a university women’s ensemble identity from the perspective of its members. Findings revealed that the conductor’s strategies to empower members of the ensemble was the most salient factor. Specifically, honoring cultural knowledge and pushing gender boundaries were highly influential strategies in cultivating this women’s ensemble identity.</image:caption>
